Earth Album

Earth Album

If you are a regular Flickr user, you’ll know you can Geo-Tag

your photos. A site called Earth Album makes finding photos by location so much easier by mashing up Flickr’s location data with Google Maps. Simply search for a location, drag and zoom with your cursor, then click on any point in the map to see a selection of photos taken on or near that point!

If you click over to http://labs.systemone.at/retrievr/ you’ll find a web service called Retrievr.

This is an extraordinary search engine, that lets you sketch a drawing with your mouse, and will then bring up many vaguely matching photos stored on Flickr.

Facebook search comes to Firefox!

Facebook search comes to Firefox!

Minor tech news, but no one else has reported it, so here’s me hoping to get the scoop :)

If you’re a Firefox user, you’ll be familiar with the search box in the top-right corner. Long-time users, probably know that the search box has a drop down list of search engines, other than Google, and that some websites offer a Firefox search for which you get an install option at the bottom of said list. Now, Facebook is one of these sites!

This is a series of posts I’m going to make. Every Friday (for an decided period!) I’ll post up a small tip that might help you with your every day tech.

Today’s tip is for Firefox:
If you ever wish you had a search plug-in for the website you’re on, you might be able to get one quicker than you think.

Of course, you can try the main repository, roll your own or even hack Firefox’s about:config page. Before you run off and do that, read on …

Some websites have already made a search plug in available from their own site. Click the drop-down list of search engines in Firefox, if there’s any available you’ll see some entries at the bottom of your list, prefixed with the word “Add”. See here
