Well thanks for making me aware of that. I'll keep it in mind and keep this 64GB drive away from other computers! (I can't really afford to replace this one!)

Voltage. I had seen different reports say that poor wiring and voltage on motherboard ports is at fault in 10% to 40% (depending whom you listen) of board failures.

I guess that might be the difference with me then. I'm just doing incremental back ups of my documents, which aren't changing a great deal, and I am only using it on my home computer.

When you say ports of questionable quality, are you talking about ports not physically fitting properly and causing damage, or issues like voltage spikes?

I had a post on my drives while back:
http://www.rarst.net/hardware/flash-drive/

I really burn through them. :( They see a lot of use and in different computers, often with mboards (and so USB ports) of questionable quality.

I wish pace of implementing wireless links was faster. Electrical connections kill a lot of hardware.

Hi there,
That's an interesting point. My experience has been different. I haven't had any flash drives fail, yet I have had several hard drives fail.

Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

I am reluctant to go for large capacity drives. I am averaging one flash drive dying on me every year (and I go only for expensive high-speed models) so my trust in flash media is tiny.

Currently I alternate between SanDisk Ducati flash drive and 1.8" external hard drive from Prestigio.
